چکیده

We propose Chaskey: a very efficient Message Authentication Code (MAC) algorithm for 32-bit microcontrollers. It is intended for applications that require 128-bit security, yet cannot implement standard MAC algorithms because of stringent requirements on speed, energy consumption, or code size. Chaskey is a permutation-based MAC algorithm that uses the Addition-RotationXOR (ARX) design methodology. We prove that Chaskey is secure in the standard model, based on the security of an underlying Even-Mansour block cipher. Chaskey is designed to perform well on a wide range of 32-bit microcontrollers. Our benchmarks show that on the ARM Cortex-M3/M4, our Chaskey implementation reaches a speed of 7.0 cycles/byte, compared to 89.4 cycles/byte for AES-128-CMAC. For the ARM Cortex-M0, our benchmark results give 16.9 cycles/byte and 136.5 cycles/byte for Chaskey and AES-128-CMAC respectively.

Chaskey: a MAC Algorithm for Microcontrollers - Status Update and Proposal of Chaskey-12 -

The Chaskey MAC algorithm was presented by Mouha et al. at SAC 2014. It is designed for real-world applications where 128-bit keys are required, but standard cryptographic algorithms cannot be implemented because of stringent requirements on speed, energy consumption, or code size. Shortly after its publication, Chaskey was considered for standardization by ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 27/WG 2. At the Octo...

Key-Recovery Attacks Against the MAC Algorithm Chaskey

Chaskey is a Message Authentication Code (MAC) for 32bit microcontrollers proposed by Mouha et. al at SAC 2014. Its underlying blockcipher uses an Even-Mansour construction with a permutation based on the ARX methodology. In this paper, we present key-recovery attacks against Chaskey in the single and multi-user setting. These attacks are based on recent work by Fouque, Joux and Mavromati prese...

32 - bit Microcontrollers for Automotive Applications

A new family of Atmel AVR low-power 32-bit microcontrollers provides higher processing performance, improved accuracy, and more power efficiency for automotive applications. These enhancements enable implementation of new product-differentiating features such as advanced control algorithms, voice control, and capacitive touch sensing (see figure 1). The Atmel AVR UC3C 32-bit microcontroller inc...

High-speed Curve25519 on 8-bit, 16-bit, and 32-bit microcontrollers

This paper presents new speed records for 128-bit secure elliptic-curve Diffie-Hellman key-exchange software on three different popular microcontroller architectures. We consider a 255-bit curve proposed by Bernstein known as Curve25519, which has also been adopted by the IETF. We optimize the X25519 key-exchange protocol proposed by Bernstein in 2006 for AVR ATmega 8-bit microcontrollers, MSP4...
